Anyone tried Runpod's Serverless GPU for LLMs? Worth it or just stick to regular pods?

S ShaliniV 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
Serverless is awesome for inference, especially if your usage is bursty. No need to worry about stopping pods.

How does the billing work for serverless? Is it pay-per-use?
3
A ArjunK 1 month ago
Yeah, for inference it's a no-brainer.

For training, I'd still go with On-demand pods. Serverless can get pricey if you're running long jobs.

M MohanR 1 month ago
Agreed, serverless is for quick stuff.

I used their LLM Inference Endpoints. Super convenient setup.

Is it easy to use with custom models?

Oh, didn't know they had dedicated LLM endpoints.

Thinking of trying Runpod, which GPU should I start with for some ML stuff?

P PriyaS 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
If you're just starting, an RTX 3090 is usually a good balance of cost and power. You can always upgrade later.

I second this. Good for learning without breaking the bank.

Yeah, 3090 is solid for most projects.

Check out the Community Cloud Pods first. Sometimes you find better deals there.

Is Community Cloud secure enough for private data though?

Good tip, I always forget about Community Cloud.

Depends on your budget. If you can swing it, an A100 is way faster for serious models.
4
M MeeraD 1 month ago
True, but A100 is a big jump in price.
5
R RahulP 1 month ago
I'd only go A100 if you're doing really heavy training.
